The strategic plan helps to define the direction in which a firm must goes forward, and helps in establishing realistic objectives and goals that are in line with the vision and mission charted out for it. ​

A good strategic plan describes the needed foundation from which a firm can grow, evaluate its success, compensate its employees and linked to its company-level Annual Performance Plan and the Annual Operating Plans of each of each functional departments, and its sub-functions. ​
